Ukraine informs China that Russia is still not prepared for genuine discussions

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Guangzhou, China to discuss bilateral relations and the ongoing war with Russia. Despite being open to negotiations with Russia, Kuleba emphasized that Moscow must negotiate in “good faith,” a condition not currently observed. China, presenting itself as a neutral party, calls for both sides to come to the table to end the conflict. While denying backing for Russia, China continues to be a key partner for Moscow.

During the meeting, China reiterated its commitment to expanding food imports from Ukraine and providing humanitarian assistance to address the crisis. Both Chinese and Ukrainian officials expressed support for peace efforts despite the challenging conditions. Russia, on the other hand, has proposed unrealistic terms for ending the war, which Kyiv has rejected.

As Russian troops advance in Ukraine, Kyiv is working towards hosting a second international summit to advance peace talks. The country aims for the summit to be hosted by a “Global South” nation with Russian participation. The Ukrainian government hopes that collective efforts can lead to a ceasefire and the eventual end of the conflict.

Kuleba’s visit to China highlights the complex diplomatic efforts amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine. As the international community navigates the crisis, dialogue and negotiation remain crucial in finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
