A raging wildfire near Athens has forced evacuations of at least 11 towns and villages in Greece. The fire, which began on Sunday, is burning in areas including Marathon and Mount Penteli north of Athens. The situation is described as extremely dangerous, with at least three hospitals being evacuated. More than 670 firefighters, supported by waterbombing planes, helicopters, and trucks, are working to contain the blaze, which is being fueled by strong winds and dry terrain. In Spain, a businessman is under investigation for stealing water from an aquifer to water his golf course, causing environmental damage estimated at €65m. The Guardia Civil discovered multiple illegal wells and dried-up springs on the property.
