Comedian Brittany Furlan saved her dog Neena from being carried off by a coyote near their Los Angeles home by climbing up a wall and grabbing her out of the animal’s mouth. Furlan posted surveillance video of the incident on Instagram, showing the coyote snatching the dog by the poolside. Furlan attributes Neena’s extra flab for saving her from being carried away by the coyote. Furlan, who is married to rocker Tommy Lee, shared the video to highlight the importance of pet safety in Southern California, where coyote attacks on small pets are not uncommon. Coyotes are known to weigh between 10 to 35 pounds and can be attracted to trash and pet food. It is advised to not leave small pets outside unsupervised and to bring them inside at night to prevent attacks. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates that there are between 250,000 to 750,000 coyotes in California, and they have adapted to surviving alongside humans in many communities. Furlan urges pet owners to stay vigilant and not get too comfortable, as dangers like coyotes can strike even in broad daylight.
