Retired judge Gregory Weeks has petitioned the state of North Carolina’s parole commission to release Daniel Green, who was convicted of the 1993 murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan. Green and his co-defendant Larry Demery were convicted of killing Jordan during a botched robbery when they were both 18 years old. Details of Weeks’ petition are confidential, and neither Weeks nor Michael Jordan have commented on the matter. James Jordan was found shot to death in his red Lexus, gifted to him by his son, along a North Carolina highway. His body was identified in a South Carolina swamp days after the killing. Green was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, while Demery testified that Green was the one who pulled the trigger. Demery pleaded guilty to several charges and, like Green, received a life sentence. Green has maintained his innocence regarding the murder, stating that he only helped dispose of the body. The parole commission hearing in North Carolina is confidential and closed to the public.
