A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured in a shooting incident at a Midtown Atlanta building that houses a Four Seasons hotel and residences. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect was also taken to the hospital. The suspect fired from a balcony on the 33rd floor of the building, using multiple guns. Police responded to a dispute between a hotel worker and the suspect, leading to a stand-off with negotiators trying to get the suspect to surrender. Eventually, police breached the suspect’s unit and took him into custody. The incident caused floors above and below to be sealed off, with traffic halted in the area. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the officers’ response due to the use of force. The shelter-in-place order for the high rise was lifted, and the suspect was in custody. The Four Seasons hotel occupies a portion of the building, along with residences and office space. The Mayor of Atlanta mentioned that the suspect appeared to be wearing a gas mask during the incident, and over 15 shots were fired. Overall, the police response was commended for the preservation of life.
