After a tumultuous football season for the Oklahoma Sooners, the team suffered a major setback with the decommission of highly touted quarterback Kevin Sperry. Sperry, who was the first commit in OU’s 2025 class, has flipped to Florida State, leaving the Sooners without their future quarterback. The loss is even more significant as Sperry had been an active recruiter for the team since his verbal commitment.
Ranked as a 4-star prospect, Sperry has had a successful season at Denton Guyer, throwing for over 2,000 yards with 21 touchdowns. Despite his silence on the matter, Sperry had previously expressed emotional attachment to OU after receiving a scholarship offer from Brent Venables and Jeff Lebby.
Following Sperry’s departure, the Sooners have secured commitments from other quarterbacks, including Michael Hawkins in the 2024 class, and Jaden O’Neal in the 2026 class. However, the team is facing a challenging season with a 5-5 record and the possibility of missing out on a bowl game for the first time in 26 years.
With Venables still in the process of finalizing his coaching staff, the Sooners are looking to regroup and move forward amidst the recruiting challenges they are facing. As they navigate through this difficult period, the team remains focused on securing top talent for future seasons.
